KNEC Announces Guidelines for 2026 Junior School Project Assessments

The Kenya National Examinations Council (KNEC) has released important instructions for schools on how the 2026 Kenya Junior School Education Assessment (KJSEA) projects will be carried out.

These projects are part of how students will be assessed in different subjects. Schools are expected to follow clear steps, timelines, and rules when handling them.

How Schools Will Access the Projects

KNEC will upload all project materials to the online Competency-Based Assessment (CBA) portal. Schools will be able to access them through the official website: https://cba.knec.ac.ke

Headteachers must log in to the portal using their school accounts. If a password is forgotten, they can reset it using the “forgot password” option.

How the Assessments Will Be Done

Teachers will guide students as they work on their project tasks. They will also score the work using official guidelines provided by KNEC.

Schools are encouraged to use materials found within their local environment. If needed, they can also improvise using available resources.

Deadline for Submission

All project scores must be uploaded to the CBA portal by 30th August 2026.

KNEC has emphasized that school heads are responsible for ensuring:

  • All students complete their projects
  • All scores are correctly recorded
  • All data is submitted on time

Late submissions will attract a penalty of Ksh. 500 per student.

Record Keeping

Schools and students must keep a record of how the project work was done. This includes evidence of progress, which may be checked during assessment or monitoring.

Confidentiality Rules

KNEC has reminded all schools that all assessment materials are strictly confidential. Teachers, school leaders, and students must handle them carefully and not share them inappropriately.
